[info]realmof_themuse [2.14.3.F] Random Fact

(The Robert Goren mentioned here is [info]detectivebear and relates to the storyline in the journal.)

Nicole sat at Bobby Goren's desk, legs crossed neatly at the knees. She dangled one high-heeled shoe from her toes, bobbing her foot up and down slowly. She looked very much the part of a bimbo waiting for her chance to flirt with a detective, except the detective who's desk she occupied wouldn't be showing up any time soon. But she knew that. She knew he was suspended. And it amused her to no end.

This late at night, the floor was mostly empty and she used it to her advantage, like a reconnaissance mission. She'd used her connections to secure a way into the building and she'd picked this time of night because she knew the few detectives who might be here wouldn't recognize her. She trailed a finger along the space between the desk and the blotter. It was interesting, being on this side of things. She wondered if Bobby knew the average office desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet.

Plucking one of the blue ball point pens from the MCS mug on the desk, she scribbled a nice little note )

TBS 2.11.1A Reason free from passion...

It is reason, and not passion, which must guide our deliberations, guide our debate, and guide our decision.

Major crimes call for major passion.  You don’t deal with sociopath serial killers or high pressure situations without feeling involved. It’s not that Caro didn’t feel, or that she didn’t care. It’s just that after all the years, she’d learned to separate herself from her work.  Sure, she drew upon her experiences, but she didn’t let them dictate her actions on the job. Perhaps that is why she and Logan never hit it off particularly well.

She had a habit of pointing out to people their weaknesses.  She had a habit of coming off as a know-it-all.  It worked for Bobby Goren.   She wasn’t quite sure why it didn’t work for her, or why after only a year, she found herself desperate for her old job working with the FBI. Sure, it was lonely as hell and the administration had a tendency to be screwed up, but it oddly felt like home.  After a year dodging bullets and dealing with tempers and politics, she missed being by herself.   Then again, the more she thought about it, the more she realized that even when she’d had a partner, even when she had a team, she’d been alone the whole time.
